To me one of the most compellingly beautiful things in the Universe is the death of a star. Not because of the majestic spectacle which occurs, but because that star potentially never had the opportunity to nurture life upon an orbiting chunk of habitable rock. It would never have had trillions of lifeforms relying on it, utterly dependent on it’s energy, and even worshipping it for millennia. The universe itself completely unaware of these practically insignificant events, with only us around to witness their lights burning out, and yet most will be far too distant for even our curious eyes. That is why I find the death of a star incredibly beautiful, because when you think about it, it’s profoundly tragic.

Indiana Jones minimalist movie posters

3 New movie poster designs I made today, it started with the Last Crusade idea, and I was so happy with it I was inspired to make all three.

I've been seeing the minimalist style a lot recently and decided to try my hand at it. Let me know what you think, I'll be putting prints up for sale soon so get in touch if you like them.

Book Recommendations

So we all had to recommend two books this week in our store. One of them had to be something we are currently reading, the other had to be something we planned on reading next. For my ‘current’ book I chose this, it’s A Fall Of Moondust by Arthur C. Clarke. It’s not a massively well know book to most people, but then again not many books I read are, especially being science fiction. I like to recommend lesser known books when I can. So between all of the staff, that’s at least 36 books that were chosen to place on a stand in front of store for customers to see almost immediately as they come in. Within an hour it had sold! (we only had 1 in stock for the time being).

There’s a lovely, tingly, proud feeling you get when you know
someone has taken a book you personally recommended, especially one you never expected to be sold so quickly - if at all. And especially so when it sells faster than everyone else’s recommends :P

My 2nd recommendation for what I’m going to read next was The Eye Of The World by Robert Jordan, Part 1 in the Wheel Of Time series.

The War Of The Worlds Poster Design

I've wanted to try some more graphic design based work recently, and this idea has been in my head for some time. So here it is. A simple poster design for the daddy of sci-fi books, the war of the worlds.

Credit for the paper texture goes to: http://riverta.deviantart.com. I really need to start scanning in and building a library of my own textures!

Kiss of Death

Here's a design I made a while back for a slightly hefty revolver I wanted one of the characters to have, it never really looked as 'different' as I wanted it to, but I was really happy with the texture work I did for it. It's supposed to be a re-engineered relic.

public planetary travel

This is supposed to be just a simple leaflet advertising travel throughout the solar system for regular members of the public. A piece collected by one of the characters met along the way.

Racing Series Speeder Concept

Here's a first basic idea for the speeders used in the Regulus solar system grand prix.
Not too much detail, but it's a start on the rough shapes I want to incorporate.
